 José Altuve ya se reportó a los campos de entrenamiento de los Astros de Houston y comenzó su preparación para adaptarse al jardín izquierdo.

A pesar de no lograr retener a Alex Bregman, la organización texana sigue con la idea de probar a Altuve en la pradera izquierda.

Hace un mes, el pelotero venezolano manifestó que estaría dispuesto a jugar en el bosque izquierdo si regresaba Bregman a la tercera base, escenario que movería al mexicano Isaac Paredes a la intermedia.

La organización de los Astros le planteó la idea de cambiar de posición a Altuve al final de la pasada temporada de las Grandes Ligas (MLB, por sus siglas en inglés).

El lunes, Altuve entrenó atrapando elevados bateados por el coach Dave Clark y usando el guante del cubano Yordan Álvarez, bromeando después que era demasiado pesado para él.

«No quiero hacer de esto un gran tema o enfoque, ni algo fuera de lo común», manifestó Altuve a los medios de comunicación, según recogió LasMayores.com., la página oficial del considerado «mejor béisbol del mundo» en español.

«Quiero dejar atrás esta conversación sobre el left field, responder todas las preguntas posibles y seguir adelante para prepaarnos en lo que realmente nos importa: La temporada y ganar», subrayó.

El pelotero criollo, de 34 años de edad, es ahora el jugador de mayor edad en los Atros de Houston. Además, sólo él y Lance McCullers Jr. son los únicos que permanecen en la organización de aquel equipo que ganó la Serie Mundial de 2017.

Declive defensivo de Altuve

Altuve, ganador del Guante de Oro como segunda base en 2015, ha registrado un declive defensivo en los últimos años, de acuerdo con las estadísticas.

Sus números de Outs por Encima del Promedio, que alcanzó su máximo de +6 en el 2018, cayó de +1 en el 2022 a -3 en el 2023 y -9 el ao pasado, la segunda peor marca entre los segunda bases calificados.

Asimismo, acumuló -13 carreras salvadas a la defensiva en el 2023 y el 2024, y -15 en el 2022.

Espada afrontará el caso Altuve «día a día»

En medio de todo este «experimento», el mánager de los Atros, Joe Espada, expresó que todavía no compartirá con la prensa el plan con Altuve, ya que será una «evolución diaria».

«Por ahora, vamos día a día. Quiero recibir su opinión antes de definir los siguientes paso, pero en definitiva jugará en la segunda basa en álgun momento», aclaró.
