Este domingo 12 de marzo se realizará la ceremonia de los Premios Óscar, evento que se llevará a cabo en el Teatro Dolby de Los Ángeles, donde se cerrará la temporada de premios del Séptimo Arte con el reconocimiento a los actores, directores y productoras que más han contribuido en este ejercicio, siendo Brendan Fraser, uno de los que podría llevarse la estatuilla a mejor actor por su papel en el filme «La Ballena«.

En este largometraje interpreta a Charlie, un profesor de literatura con obesidad mórbida que da clases virtuales con la cámara apagada, mientras su salud empeora. Además, todo ocurre mientras intenta recuperar el vínculo con su hija adolescente. El actor llega con buen pie a la ceremonia, pues acaba de ganar el Critics y el Sag´s Award por su interpretación.

La virulencia de las críticas indica que la película, más allá de sus méritos y sus faltas, posee alguna especie de contundencia, de eficacia. Y una buena parte de esa eficacia hay que buscarla en el trabajo de Brendan Fraser, que encuentra en Charlie la ocasión para volver al cine mainstream con una nominación al Óscar a Mejor Actor, después de los años de exilio en films de baja visibilidad.
